Water's Edge

Saw your face in the water’s edge and I stumbled on the steps of your relief

Your inner depth hasn’t found me yet and it was all that I had left of me

And I, I go by, casting raindrops to the sky

As if our pain could be recycled or replaced

And you think I’m shy, when I’ve got so much to hide

And if I showed you who I was, you wouldn’t stay

And I would wish upon your star to be where you are

And I would plummet to the earth to make you see

I am everything you are, and it’s taking control of me

I was a guest at your last request, at the closure of your cheap eternity

You were a saint with your painted face and the way you never looked at me

And I, I give in, like a leaf upon the wind

I let you cover me with frost as fine as soot

And you give me strength and I find myself again

In the only place I know you’d never look

And I would wish upon your star to be where you are

And I would plummet to the earth to make you see

I am everything you are, and it’s taking control of me

Would you write my name

In silver fire, in lights, in flame

I was your everything

Say you need me, say you need me

I would wish upon your star to be where you are

And I would plummet to the earth to make you see

I am everything you are, and it’s taking control of me

Stone’s throw from your afterglow, I awoke and watched the sun come up alone

You save face for your big mistakes, but I was sorry for the things I’d done

And all I have now, as the shadows gather round

Is a path that leads me down to where you lay

And I’d make amends if I had the chance again

To understand the things I know you tried to say

And I would wish upon your star to be where you are

And I would plummet to the earth to make you see

I am everything you are, and it’s taking control of me

Saw your face in the water’s edge

And it was all that I had left of me
